Panasonic LF-D311 DVD Recorder
A universal storage solution, the Panasonic LF-311 is an internal ATAPI (IDE) interface drive that delivers the exciting world of DVD in a choice of formats—secure, write-once DVD-R General technology and flexible rewriteable DVD-RAM technology. Combined, these formats provide end users and businesses with the optimum solution for creating DVDs, audio and video storage/playback; expanded computer storage for documents, data and images; backup and archiving; and small-scale distribution or sharing of photos and videos.

DVD-R provides the very best compatibility with future, current and legacy DVD players.  It is estimated that 98% of existing DVD movie players and DVD-ROM drives will play DVDs created using the Panasonic LF-D311 DVD-R format.  A recent article indicated that only 70% of DVD movie players currently being sold would play the DVD+RW format discs from DVD burners being offered by HP and others (not to mention the incompatibility with DVD movie players and DVD-ROM drives manufactured prior to 2000).

DVD-RAM provides the largest, most durable rewriteable DVD storage format. The Panasonic LF-D311 will record to double sided DVD-RAM discs providing up to 4.7GB of storage per side (twice the storage of other formats).  DVD-RAM discs can be written to up to 100,000 times and data written to the discs has an predicted life of 100 years.  These two features make DVD-RAM the superior format for archiving and backing up computer data.

The Panasonic drive makes all of these capabilities available while offering backward support for first-generation DVD-RAM discs and compatibility with future generations of DVD storage solutions.

In addition to writing to and reading from 4.7GB general use DVD-R as well as 2.6/5.2GB and 4.7/9.4GB DVD-RAM discs, the Panasonic DVD-RAM/R drive reads Multi Read-compatible CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW, audio CD, PhotoCD, VideoCD, and CD-Extra media at up to 24X speed; and DVD-ROMs at up to 6X speed. It also plays DVD Audio discs; and, when the host computer is equipped with a decoder and player software, it plays back DVD Videos.
