Panasonic LF-D521U
The All-In-One drive For All Your Data Storage Needs!

A breakthrough in versatility, the Panasonic LF-D521U DVD Multi Drive meets a huge range of data storage needs.  Compatible with all of the DVD Forum standards, the LF-D521U burns DVD-RAM, DVD-R and DVD-RW media, plus CD-R and CD-RW media making it the single drive solution for all DVD and CD needs!

DVD-RAM
The Panasonic LF-D521U writes the highly reliable, large capacity DVD-RAM discs at 2X speed. DVD-RAM provides the largest, most durable rewriteable DVD storage format. The Panasonic LF-D521U will record to single and double sided DVD-RAM discs providing up to 4.7GB of storage per side (twice the storage of other formats).  Plus, DVD-RAM discs can be written to over 100,000 times and data written to the discs has a predicted life of 30 years.  These two features make DVD-RAM a superior format for archiving high resolution artwork, scanned photographs, digital music collections and for backing up computer data.

Have you been using Zip or Jaz drives to archive your digital imaging files?  The LF-D521U quickly writes files to ultra-reliable DVD-RAM media having a much larger capacity.  Imagine storing 80 - 50MB high resolution scanned art photographs on a single removable disc!   Plus, with it's quick random access, you can do modifications and editing on the fly - just like a hard disk!

 Removable Multi Gigabyte Storage
A 9.4GB DVD-RAM disc allows you to store:
  • 8,000 full-color digital pictures
  • 800,000 documents (10KB/each file)
  • 8 hours (compressed) of MPEG2 video (2.4Mbps equivalent)
  • The equivalent of 14 CDs

DVD-RAM media is available in cartridges (Type 1 and Type 2) and also as a non-cartridge disc.  The LF-D521U can read and write to all three types.  A brief explanation of the different DVD-RAM media types follows:

  • Type 1 DVD-RAM Media - Double Sided disc mounted permanently in a protective cartridge.
  • Type 2 DVD-RAM Media - Single Sided disc in a protective cartridge, but the disc can be removed from the cartridge for playback in DVD-ROM drives that have DVD-RAM playback capability.
  • Non-cartridge DVD-RAM Media - Single Sided disc without cartridge

DVD-R
The LF-D521U also writes 4.7GB DVD-R discs at 2X speed. Quickly and safely archive up to 4.7GB of data to a removable disc with a 100 year life expectancy!  Or burn your own DVD movies with up to 2 hours of theater quality video that will playback on 98% of home DVD players. DVD-R provides the very best compatibility with future, current and legacy DVD players.  It is estimated that 98% of existing DVD movie players and DVD-ROM drives will play DVDs created using the Panasonic LF-D521U's DVD-R format.

DVD-RW
Fully compatible with DVD-RW discs, the LF-D521U allows you to test your DVD movies on these rewritable discs, then burn your finalized versions to DVD-R.  Also, the included software makes using DVD-RW discs as easy as floppy discs....drag and drop files to the DVD-RW disc or erase files by dragging them to the trash.

CD-R/CD-RW
The LF-D521U is also fully compatible with both CD-R and CD-RW discs, burning CD-R at 12X and CD-RW at 8X speed.  Plus, boasting a 32X CD-ROM read speed, the LF-D521U also reads CD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW and Audio CD formats, so you can use it to replace your computers existing CD-ROM drive.
